County Administrator
Brad Thorpe grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida in the 1950’s. He attended Florida State University and was a scholarship athlete in track and field. He graduated from Florida State in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminology. Brad also obtained a Masters of Education Leadership degree from St. Leo University in 1999.
Brad moved to Fort Collins, Colorado in 1974 and became a police officer from 1974-1977. He moved back to Florida in 1978 where he started a metal manufacturing company with his father in Hernando, Florida. They operated the business and facility for 14 years. Brad and his father sold the business in 1990 to a company in Gulfport, Mississippi.
Brad then ran for County Commissioner in 1992 and was elected. He was re-elected in 1996 where he served a total of two (2) terms, until 2000. While a County Commissioner, he served as a member of the Withlacoochee Regional Planning Council and was the Chairman of the Tourist Development Council.
Brad worked at Central Florida Community College from 1993 to 2001 where he was a Financial Aid Counselor and Corporate Training Manager. He was hired by the Board of County Commissioners in 2001 as the Director of the Community Services Department and held that position until he was chosen as the County Administrator in May of 2009. He also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Shared Services Alliance; he is a Board Member of Kids Central, Inc., and is a "211 Tampa Bay Cares" Advisory Committee member. He is also a Life Member of the Inverness Sertoma Club.
