 Hazardous Materials Section

Craig Stevens
The Department of Fire Rescue, Hazardous Material Section employees two full
time hazardous material staff. The Hazardous Material Coordinator
and the Hazardous Material Specialist are required to be on call
24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist the fire departments
in emergency response to hazardous material incidents. The Coordinator
and Specialist oversee the County's Hazardous Material's Special
Operations Team.
In addition to emergency response, the staff
is responsible for the following:
- Household Hazardous Waste Collection events
- Small Quantity Generator Verification program for the Florida
Department of Environmental Protection
- Project Clean Sweep disposal for small businesses
- Hazard Analyses for Extremely Hazardous Substances for the Florida
Department of Community Affairs
- Environmental Enforcement and Illegal Dumping complaints for the Sheriff's Department
- Providing emergency response hazardous materials training to Fire Service Personnel, Law Enforcement
Officers, and County employees.
