Project Clean Sweep
Any business or organization that generates hazardous waste is responsible for properly
disposing of this waste. The cost and hassle of disposing of this waste can be great. That is why
the Citrus County Hazardous Material Section with the approval of the Florida Department of
Environmental Protection has developed a program called Project Clean Sweep. This program has
been designed to offer small businesses and other organization located within Citrus County a
responsible, cost-effective method to properly dispose of small quantities of hazardous waste.
The cost to participate in Project Clean Sweep varies depending on the type and quantity of
waste that you present for disposal, as well as the County's current contracted disposal prices
with a licensed hazardous waste management company. All businesses or organizations that participate
in Project Clean Sweep will receive a completed hazardous waste disposal receipt that will show
all information that is required by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for CESQGs.
All that your business has to do is to keep the disposal receipt for a minimum of three years. We
suggest keeping them forever.
Any business or organization that meets the following criteria can participate in our Project
Clean Sweep:
- Your business or organization site is located in Citrus County.
- Your business or organization meets the definition of a Conditionally Exempt Small
Quantity Generator (CESQG). To meet this requirement your business cannot generate more than
100 kilograms (220 lbs.) of hazardous waste or less than 1 kilogram of an acute hazardous
waste in any one calendar month and you can never accumulate more than 1000 kilograms (2,200
lbs.) of hazardous waste on-site at any given time.
- You have submitted an application with the Hazardous Material Section and have been
approved to participate in a collection event.
Project Clean Sweep is intended to make your task of properly disposing of your hazardous waste
easier and less costly. If you choose not to participate in the Project Clean Sweep program,
please remember that you must use an alternative approved method of disposal for your hazardous
wastes.
Project Clean Sweep program days are by appointment only. Call (352) 341-2150 to receive a price
for disposal and to set up an appointment.
