All Citrus County Firefighters are required to be trained as a volunteer firefighter in the state of Florida within one year of joining a department. The Citrus County Fire Rescue Division provides these classes at no cost to the individual firefighter in order to reach State-certified volunteer status. These classes are provided at the Fire Training Center, located at 1300 S. Lecanto Highway, Lecanto, Florida 34461.

The Fire Training Center, in conjunction with Central Florida Community College, will also offer a degree program for individuals desiring to obtain a Fire Science degree.
