Artificial Reef LocationsCitrus County Aquatic Services has been establishing the County’s permitted Artificial Reef site since 1985. Since the inception this location has had 10 deployments and has become a very well established site.
Fish Haven
The deployments have consisted of Lincoln Logs, Culverts, Concrete Poles, Boulders, Bridge Material with a total approximation of 10,130 tons of material. Citrus County is fortunate to have several access points to the artificial reef site. Some locations are the Barge Canal, Fort Island Gulf Beach, Fort Island Gulf Park located in Crystal River, as well as Mac Rae’s located in Homosassa. (coordinates below)
Funding for the development of these reefs is derived from both County tax dollars and State grants. Grant funding is awarded on a competitive basis with emphasis given to reef sites that are frequently utilized.
