Where does Citrus County get its water?

Citrus County’s water comes from ground water wells.

How is the water treated?

The well water for Citrus County Utilities Division water plants is chlorinated to inactivate bacteria.

Is my water safe?

Citrus County constantly monitors water quality to comply with Federal and State safe drinking water standards. Water is monitored daily by our FDEP (Florida Department of Environmental Protection) certified operators and the outside contract State Certified Laboratory.

Is fluoride added to the Citrus County water supply?

No.

Do I need to buy bottled water for drinking or cooking?

No. Some people prefer bottled water for reasons of taste and personal preference, especially for drinking and making coffee or tea but it is not necessary for health or safety.

How can I get my water tested?

Contact the Citrus County Environmental Health Office at the Lecanto Health Department, 3700 W. Sovereign Path, Lecanto, FL., at (352) 527-5295.

How can I determine if water or wastewater utilities are available to a property that I am interested in purchasing?

Call Citrus County Utilities at (352) 527-7650. They can identify what utilities are available to serve the property. You can also look at the maps section of this website to get information on which utility company serves specific areas of Citrus County.
